It rained just before we left for our ride out
on day 2! Wet gear was donned for the
first time, but came off very soon afterwards as we headed in the opposite
direction to the rain.
First, it was
through Spearfish canyon, many bikes in both directions, with a beautiful river
and rock faces rising both sides.
After
Spearfish city, we then went to Stonehouse Saloon, a stone outbuilding that is
abandoned for most of the year until Sturgis takes place when it is activated
as a bar and music centre in the middle of nowhere by its owner.
After a drink and signing our names on the
walls in line with custom, we then headed further west, back into Wyoming and
to Hullet, a small town that hosts rally-goers with music, fast food and an
fascinating museum of western history.
Mister, provided for your cooling convenience!
After lunch, we headed south to Devils
Tower, an igneous formation with vertical cracks that sticks up from the
prairie land surrounding it. It is
sacred to a local tribe, but is also one
of the most popular crack climbing formations in the US.
We returned to Sundance and onward to
Deadwood, in all 180 miles of excellent riding.
