Barbados 2

We went to the Barbados Museum before spending some time in Bridgetown and then visiting the Mount Gay Rum centre. It is Barbados’ most famous rum and claims to be the oldest rum distillery, dating from 1703. Well, of course you have to try some so we did, before driving up the west coast to Speightstown and then inland for the drive back. The west coast is so built up there is almost no frontage to see and the traffic was quite slow at times. In the evening, we enjoyed a Roots & Rhythms show over dinner, with lots of history and dancing included, well attended by a waitress who delivered the drinks faster than we could consume them!

With Ron & Julie, we visited Harrison’s Cave with amazing stalactites and stalagmites, accessed by tram to a depth of 160’ below ground level. Some stalagmites would (I imagine) quite suit an Ann Summers shop window! Then we went to Sunbury Plantation House to view antiques and other artefacts, before calling by Brian & Josie’s again for a cocktail as it was close by. We moved to stay with them the next day.
