Sydney 6

Last day here, started a bit grey, but brightened and warmed quickly to be the best of all in Sydney. Taking a walk around the tip of The Rocks, under the Bridge, gave a first hand appreciation of the size of the foundation steelwork of it - enormous, hinged over 30' above ground level, an engineering marvel from the 1930's, without computers, CAD and other modern routine technology! Continuing around the point, towards Darling Harbour, passes some very attractive warehouse redevelopments, integrating bits of old machinery and one such providing a block of residences with private moorings. Very fancy. The approaches to Darling Harbour have also seen some development and the area still buzzes with visitors and life. We visited the Aquarium and saw lots, including sharks from within glass tunnels, but were greatly amused at overhearing two British lads commenting on a notice they had just read - that one shark principally feeds on crushed-asians [sic] - there is a plentiful supply! Then there was the unusual dugong, cousin of the manatee.
We ran out of time to visit the Martime Museum, but did manage to view the replica of Captain Cook's Endeavour in the historical vessels area, from the quayside. It's a great place to just walk about and we did quite a bit of that, apart from a quick shopping excursion to get Jean some better-suited shoes for the wet weather we hear awaits us in Queensland from tomorrow.
